Polar bears and Northern Lights in Churchill Manitoba

Churchill, located a 2 1/2 hour flight from Winnipeg, is the polar bear capital of the world.  Best viewing is only in October and November.  During this time, hundreds of bears move from their summer habitat on the tundra to the shores of Hudson Bay.  This is where the ice packs form and provide access to the seals.

Polar bears have no fear and no natural enemies, which means you can get a very close look at these giant, curious creatures from your tundra vehicle.  A fantastic way to see an overview of the tundra is by helicopter, where you can see caribou, polar bears as well as moose.  If you have any extra time, you may even try a dog sled ride.

My latest trip to Japan

If you are a nature lover, enjoy spas, gardens and the mountains, you will like Kyushu, Japan.

I experienced the natural hot springs (onsen) and stayed at a traditional Japanese Inn (Ryokan) at Kiyashiki Kumamoto-Ken, where you can sleep on a tatami mat and enjoy the Kaiseki meals included for dinner and breakfast.

 A delicious Kaiseki meal

After soaking three times, my joints and body felt 10 years younger and my skin became silky soft.  They have natural hot springs (onsen) for separate sexes or if you are brave enough, try the mixed bath with waterfall.

The largest volcano in Japan, Mt. Aso has different colors of lava bubbling.  If you enjoy castles and Ninja stories, Kumamoto castle is a must to visit as it is one of the three most famous castles and the most impregnable ever built in Japan.
